JORGE PARRA IS A RESTLESS CREATOR WHO MOVES NATURALLY BETWEEN FASHION, ART AND EVERYDAY LIFE. HE HAS BUILT A DISTINCT UNIVERSE WHERE THE CLASSICAL AND THE CONTEMPORARY COEXIST EFFORTLESSLY. WITH A VERY PERSONAL, COSMOPOLITAN AND LABEL-FREE GAZE, JORGE UNDERSTANDS CREATIVITY AS A WAY OF LIVING — OF SURROUNDING HIMSELF WITH BEAUTY AND TELLING STORIES THROUGH EVERYTHING HE DOES.
How would you define your interior style without using labels?
My style is very specific and strongly reflects who I truly am inside. It is an extension of myself.
Your home is almost a cabinet of curiosities: how do you decide which pieces belong?
I’m fortunate to find beauty in anything. I make a selection that may seem unrelated at first glance, but that works in my mind and when it all comes together, magic happens.
“This house is an extension of my personality. My life is a stage set.”
Which piece of furniture best represents your lifestyle?
The Chaise Longue, classic, practical, comfortable and poetic.
“I am a creative, a dreamer. I have always developed my own universe.”
Is there any piece of furniture in your home with a special story or personal meaning?
Many. There is a chest of drawers that belonged to my family, to my great-great-grandmother, and that survived a bombing during the war. And the original French Empire-style Chaise Longue, which I begged some antique dealers to keep for me for two years.
Do you remember the first artwork you placed on the walls of your home?
It was Pippi Longstocking’s horse, “Little Old Man”, in my grandparents’ country house when I was about four years old.
What is your relationship with colour? Emotion, memory or intuition?
Since childhood I painted and paid close attention to colours and light. A mix of intuition, emotion and memory.
Do you have a palette you consider “very you”?
Olive green, cypress green, albero yellow, sky blue, blood red.
“My entire home is my refuge. But if I had to choose a new corner, it would be the living room with the sofas.”
What advice would you give for creating a home that reflects your personality?
Stay true to yourself and don’t follow trends.
What design trends inspire you at the moment and how do you apply them at home?
I don’t follow trends. I draw inspiration from past eras.
